Twitter Server Problems
For around a week or more now, Twitter has been failing to function in the evenings.
Rumors have been floating around, suggesting even that Twitter purposely shut down servers so as to garner publicity and get people talking. This theory operates on the “any attention is good attention” theory.
This theory is also fundamentally flawed. No business makes a decision to consciously shut down their services so that they can make the front page of Digg. Not only is the idea preposterous, it reflects a poor understanding of many different aspects of business.
So, why is twitter having so many problems? Well, I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago asking if you would pay for Twitter. I said then that I probably would pay for the service, and I haven’t changed my mind. If paying for Twitter would improve the service and get rid of the outages, I’d be all for it.
What about you? If Twitter could guarantee better performance, would you pay for it?
